Pehredaar Piya Ki latest news – Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCC) has asked Sony TV to change show time slot from 8:30 PM to 10 PM
Sony TV’s recently-launched show Pehredaar Piya Ki came (produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions) under the scanner after an online petition on change.org addressed to I&B minister Smriti Irani was filed, demanding the ban of the soap that shows a 9-year-old getting married to an 18-year-old girl. More than one lakh people had signed the petition urging Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to ban the show.
The makers have been defending it, saying viewers must understand the circumstances in which the girl has to marry the child.
An now as per latest reports, the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), a self-regulatory body under the Indian Broadcasting Foundation umbrella, has asked Sony Pictures Network India to move it to the 10 pm slot and simultaneously run a scroll stating that it doesn’t promote child marriage.
On Wednesday, a BCCC official told IANS: “We had a monthly meeting and the channel officials were called for a discussion, which went on for quite long. After everything, they were directed that the timing of the show should be shifted to a late night slot of 10 p.m. and that they must run a disclaimer.
The show’s storyline is about an 18 year old girl who gets married to a young 10 year old boy from a royal family in Rajsthan to save him from enemies who want to destroy him. Actress Tejaswi Prakash plays the lead role of Diya, while Afaan Khan plays the role of Ratan Singh.
The channel has not yet confirmed whether it would change Pehredar Piya Ki timings from its 8:30 PM slot to 10 PM slot. An official confirmation is yet to be received.
