Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan is all set to produce a television show on wrestler Gama Pehalwan
Gama Pehalwan will mark Salman Khan’s first television project as producer. The show will be based on life of Gama Pehelwan, also known as The Great Gama, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Born in Amritsar, the wrestler moved to Pakistan after Independence. He died in 1960 at the age of 82.
“The story is set in Amritsar, Gama’s home town, during the Partition. The show opens with a rioting scene and a few minutes into it, a 65-year-old Gama Pehalwan makes an entry,” shared a source to a leading daily. The show will be an finite TV series of 52 episodes which will telecast twice a week.
Salman’s brother, actor-producer Sohail Khan, who has featured with the actor in several films, will be seen essaying the lead role of Gama Pahalwan. The casting for the show is underway.
Accoridng to sources, TV actors Aarav Choudhary and Preeti Bathija have been roped in to play pivotal roles of Gama’s father and mother in the show. Aarav is known for his role as Bhishma in Star Plus’ Mahabharat while Priya has been part of shows like Khwaish, Kasamh Se, Kitani Mohabbat Hai and The Buddy Project among others.
It’s also thought that Bigg Boss 9 fame Puneet Issar, a former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant, will be scripting the show. He was originally meant to be making a feature film on the heavyweight champion. Now, it seems a TV show is how the project will go forward.
