Channel V and MTV have the popular music channels in India. With the same boring daily soaps everyday, these exclusive music channels brought in new era in the TV industry.
However, after starting out as exclusive music channels, Channel V and MTV gradually incorporated daily soaps and reality shows in their programme list leaving a wee bit of a space for songs.
According to a report, Channel V is about to shut down soon while MTV will go back to how it started – a music only channel.
It is also heard that Channel V will be collaborating with Hotstar (Star’s digital partner) and will air their shows on web.
Channel V has been the youth’s favourite and shows like ‘Gumrah’, ‘Sadda Haq’ and ‘D4’ have played a huge role in their lives.
A source close to the channel told a tabloid about the revamping of the channel. It will be revamped as a youth-centric music channel from July 1. All the current shows on Channel V will air till end of June.
A few months back in February, International Channel V was shut down and turned into a 24-hour music channel. It might be possible if Indian Channel V is also thinking about the same.
Another source from the TV industry reveals that MTV is also in for some major revamping: “MTV is apparently planning to go back to the basics. There is no confirmation on this, but it is going to be all about music and they will do away with their regular shows.”
However, the channel is currently gearing up for Splitsvilla 9, which is expected to go on air around June. Simultaneously, they are also working on a new show titled Angels of Rock. So, what will become of these shows if MTV goes back to being an exclusive music channel?
A source close to MTV, however, denies the news.
