The Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India had earlier asked Ekta Kapoor to condemn Kangana Ranaut’s behaviour
The Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India has decided to boycott Kangana Ranaut, a delegation from the group told producer Ekta Kapoor, producer of JudgeMental Hai Kya on Tuesday, two days after the actor’s spat with a PTI journalist at a promotional event.
The heated exchange between Kangana and Justin Rao took place late on Sunday during the song launch of upcoming film JudgeMental Hai Kya, in the presence of producer Ekta Kapoor and actor Rajkummar Rao.
Kangana ripped into Justin Rao as he began asking her a question, accusing him of ridiculing her film Manikarnika and giving it bad press. He denied having done so and said she ‘cannot intimidate a journalist.’ Video footage of the spat went viral.
The members of Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India sent a letter to Ekta, where Kangana’s behaviour is being termed as “un-called for”. The delegation also demanded that both Ms Ranaut and Ms Kapoor apologize.
Today, production company Balaji Telefilms released their statement to the the Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India where they apologized and regretted the untoward incident. The statement said “A lot is being reported about the debate that ensued between our film JudgeMentall Hai Kya’s actor and journalist Justin Rao, at the film’s song launch event on July 7th, 2019. Unfortunately, the event took an unpleasant turn. While the people involved in it fairly held their own perspectives but because it happened at the event of our film, we, as the producers, would like to apologize and express regret for this untoward incident.”
The company further stated that they did not intend “to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments”. “Our film JudgeMentall Hai Kya releases on July 26th and we urge the media to not let this one incident hamper the team effort that has gone behind making the film,” it said.
Judgementall Hai Kya? will open a couple of Fridays from now on July 26, 2019.
